FAQ

I only want to enrol my child in nippers, do we have to join as a family?

Yes, due to our strict child-safe standards, all nippers aged 5-13 must join under a family membership. There is no per-child fee and you are welcome to include everyone in your family plus grandparents under your family membership. MMLSC is an inclusive, supportive community organisation and has so much on offer for every age.

My child turns 5 after the 30th of September but before nippers starts in January, can I sign them up?

Yes, as our nippers program is starting in January we are accepting nippers turning 5 before the 31st of December 2023. Please note this means they will need to complete two years of U6 to align with the correct age group. You will not be able to register them on SLSA until their birthday. In the meantime, you can register the rest of your family through SLSA and email membership@mmlsc.com.au to register your four year old’s details.

Are we eligible for a reduced fee if we sign up to become patrol members?

Yes definitely! We have upcoming courses in October for Advanced Resuscitation Techniques & First Aid (ARTFA), Surf Rescue Certificate & Bronze Medallion. Obtaining any of these awards and committing to 16 hours of patrol throughout the season (November - April) will make you eligible.

Do all members receive a key?

No, club keys are held by committee members and long-term (3+yrs) patrolling members. We encourage all members to get involved at MMLSC we have a number of vacant committee positions if you are interested in becoming more involved within the club. For more information please email membership@mmlsc.com.au.

Reduced Fee Eligibility

Our membership fee structure comprises two categories: Active and Patrolling. To access the benefits of reduced membership fees, it is necessary to possess, or have intentions to acquire, a patrolling award. These include Bronze Medallion, Surf Rescue Certificate or Advanced Resuscitation & First Aid (ARTFA). There are upcoming courses being held at the club in October. Kindly refer to the provided link for specific course dates and to access the expression of interest form.

FAQ

If I have a senior currently patrolling does that count as our active requirement?

Yes, if your senior can commit to 16+ patrol hours for the season your family will be eligible for the patrol discount. However, we encourage you to still be actively involved either in the Nippers Program or Seniors depending on the age of your children.

I'm a nipper parent and I can't commit to an active role is there any way around this?

Our expectation is that at least one parent/guardian/grandparent from each family actively contributes. If you are unable to assist during Nipper session times alternative avenues exist to meet the active involvement criteria like communication, events, and administration. Roles outside nippers, such as bar volunteering or aiding social events, also fulfil the engagement criteria.
